In Two Hearts, a year-long collaboration between Big Mind and legendary Indian
music label SaReGaMa, Paul was able to delve into the
Bollywood Film vaults of the 40s and uncover the haunting early work of
India’s best-known playback singer – Lata Mangeshkar.
The evocative result blends Paul Riordan’s uplifting
ambient - dance style with the melancholy original recordings
Two Hearts is a carefully
crafted masterpiece, delving into the Bollywood film vaults as far back
as the 1940’s
and tastefully reworking classic titles with
all the hallmarks of Riordan’s production.
A fine balance of epic
and grandeur is struck against the deeper and atmospheric moods woven
throughout the CD, often emotional with a hint of melancholy. To pick
out favourite tracks would be unfair as each and every track plays strength
to each other, but if I had to chose then it would be Two Hearts
dramatic and powerful, with emotionally charged yet delicate
Urdu vocals that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

The true test was passed when I was playing some of the tracks in a recent DJ set. An Urdu speaking lady came running up to me, amazed at what she was hearing (upon recognising the original film score) and wanting to know whom the remix was by. Hence Riordan has successfully bridged the gap between Bollywood and electronic ambient-dance music, avoiding the pitfalls and clichés en-route, producing a highly unique, and what will be a much sought after album.
